Endovenous Laser Treatments

Lasers have been used for medical purposes for some time, allowing for less-invasive procedures with less downtime afterward. Endovenous laser treatment, also known as EVLT is a laser procedure that effectively eliminates unsightly and sometimes painful varicose veins without the discomfort and recovery period of traditional vein stripping. Dr. Presant is one of the first physicians in the U.S. to perform EVLT to treat vein conditions.

Candidates for Laser Vein Removal

EVLT may be recommended for veins too large to effectively treat using sclerotherapy. Prior to the procedure, Dr. Presant may use ultrasound to diagnose your vein condition and determine whether you are a good candidate for EVLT.

About the Procedure

Dr. Presant performs EVLT as an outpatient procedure using local anesthetic. A thin fiber is inserted into the affected vein, which is used to deliver laser energy to damage the walls of the vessel. Vein walls seal shut and the vein is eventually reabsorbed by the body. Blood is rerouted through healthy veins nearby.

Short Recovery Time

The entire procedure takes just a few minutes to complete and patients may return to regular activities immediately afterward. Minor bruising or swelling may be present after treatment, which can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication. The precision of the laser ensures damage only occurs to the treated vein, leaving surrounding veins and tissue untouched.

Dr. Presant is one of the first physicians in the U.S. to perform EVLT and has been offering it to his patients since 2001.
